Review: Twist of Fate by Jill Shalvis

★★★ BRAND NEW RELEASE ★★★
From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes a new story in her Heartbreaker Bay series…

When the one you want …

Daisy doesn’t believe love is ever-lasting, so it’s ironic as hell that she parlayed a business degree into a wedding planning business. More ironic still is her latest job bringing her back into contact with the man who’d taught her that love can’t last.

Is the one you can’t have…

To say Diego has been taught the hard way to bury emotions is an understatement. But when he’s called home to help the brother he hasn’t seen or spoken to in years, that’s one thing. It’s another entirely to also come face to face with the first woman he ever loved. First and only…

Can love conquer all?

Daisy’s learned to depend only on herself, and Diego is and always has been an island of one. And yet when they’re together, even when they’re bickering, still wary and haunted by memories of what was … it’s magic. The question is, how to find their way back to each other…?

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

I always enjoy reading stories by Jill Shalvis. She's one of those authors that are very easy to get into and leave you wanting more of whatever world you're in.

This story for me was rough. Not because I didn't like it but I kept going back and forth seeing each person reasoning for why they did what they did and sometimes agreeing, or times, not! It makes for a good story but at times way to emotional.

I personally liked Diego way more than I did Daisy. In fact, I only tolerated her because of how much I liked him. It doesn't happen often where I really don't care for a character but yet still enjoy the story. But for me, it does once in a while and this is one of those times.

I really understood why Diego did all he did. His actions are understandable. I thought his brother got off very easy and even though he might have felt bad for what he did it was horrible and I too would have walked away from him.

I didn't understand Daisy's issues with him. It seemed like she was blaming him for some things he couldn't control. It made it hard for me to really like her. She did do some things in the book that kept me reading so she was terrible, just not fair in her thinking. At least for me.

I tried to remember that when all this went down they were just out of high school and they needed much more time to mature and be able to see another side to a story. That finally came for both of them and that made for a happy ending.

As a whole, the story isn't bad and I like most of it. It a quick read that can really be read on its own since even though it's part of the series it's like a fourth cousin.

  1. I read one of her books and really liked it. I tend to read mostly PNR so I don't read a lot from her but this sounds good.
