To overcome her painful past, baker Shelby Gilmore goes on the hunt for a friend-a male friend-to convince her stubborn psyche that men can be trusted. But where in a town as small as Fool's Gold will the petite blonde find a guy willing to not date her?

Dark, charming Aidan Mitchell puts the "adventure" in Mitchell Adventure Tours...and into the beds of his many willing female tourists. Until he realizes he's inadvertently become that guy-the one-night Casanova-and worse, everyone in town knows it. Maybe Shelby's boy/girl experiment will help him see women as more than just conquests so he can change his ways and win back his self-respect.

As Aidan and Shelby explore the secret lives of men and women, the heat between them fires up the Fool's Gold rumor mill. If no one will believe they're just friends, maybe they should give the gossips something to really talk about!

With the new upcoming series I knew I needed to get caught up on the Fool's Gold series, especially this book since it's Aidan's brothers that start the new series.

One of the things I love about Susan Mallery and the books that she writes is how comfortable they are. I know that sounds weird, but that's kinda how I feel.

I think it has something to do with how well she establishes her characters. You really feel like they are real people. Not characters that you wish were real (I have a few paranormal characters that I'd love to be real) but ones that could live down the street.

In Best of My Love you have Aidan Mitchell & Shelby Gilmore's story. You met both of them in prior books. Each of these characters have their own personal issues. Shelby after living a life of abuse for her father is kinda gun shy, and Aidan is very messed up by his parents and resorts to being a player. His life is one woman after another, no one sticking for more then a night or two.

You'd think that two damaged people would do better finding someone more stable in their lives. Well they didn't so they had to deal with it.

It turns out that they are really great for each other. They both bring out what they want to be from the other person, allowing themselves to grow.
I have to say, that I really loved how they grew. Aidan turned out to be a wonderful man who finally stopped telling others to not let their childhood hold them back, and allowed himself to heal from the same reason.

I am so glad these two found each other and came together. Even though there is a novella that ends the series I feel this is the send off it deserves. Not sure if the author will ever add more to the series but I will say I'm okay with the new one coming our way. It was time!

If you've read Best of My Love or anything else by Susan Mallery I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting and happy reading! ♡

  1. I love this author, a shame I'm so behind but I do have an ARC of the new series and don't plan on falling behind! She is definitely a "comfort" read.

  2. Know exactly what you mean by being a comfort read! I like that the characters could be real people, as that makes the story seem more interesting. I haven't read Susan Mallery, but this sounds like a good one!

    1. It is a lot. After the first few she started to write basically a trilogy a year and as long as you read those in order you should be fine.

  5. A comfort read, hmm? That's appealing. Also appealing is that he realizes he's become a Casanova and wants to change. I have a couple books by her but haven't read them yet.

  9. My daughter likes Susan Mallery. We have a couple copies of different novels of hers on our shelves. But my bookshelves are overflowing so I am going to attack my TBR list before thinking about reading other authors I haven't tried before. What is this meme (Book Club Thursday) all about? Just curious. Have a great weekend!

    1. My two BFF's started it a few years ago. Every Thursday we do the same posts. This one was Clearing off the Bookshelves where we each read a book that's on our shelves. We also do a post called Remember When were we each talk about something in our pasts about reading, books we loved, authors we miss. It's a bunch of fun and something we can do together.
