Barely Breathing
A Colorado High Country Novel #1
Pamela Clare
May 7, 2016
Format: ebook
Source: Purchased

Lexi Jewell left Scarlet Springs twelve years ago, vowing never to return to the small Colorado mountain town where she grew up. Now, here she is—over thirty, out of a job and with little choice but to move back in with her eccentric father. Lexi knows it’s just a matter of time before she runs into Austin Taylor, her first boyfriend and her first heartbreak. She’s determined to show him she’s over him—until he steps out of a pickup truck and back into her life, looking sexy as hell in his mountain ranger uniform.

As far as Austin is concerned, Lexi can turn her snazzy little convertible around and drive back to Chicago. After all, she ripped his teenage heart to pieces and turned her back on the town he loves. But from the moment he sees her again, he can’t get her out of his mind. Even her smile messes with his head.

When an evening of conversation turns into something else, Lexi and Austin agree to be friends again—with benefits. But as Lexi starts making plans to return to the big city, Austin realizes he’ll lose her a second time unless he can show her that what she’s searching for has been right here all along.

I was happy to see that Pamela Clare started writing contemporaries. I enjoyed the suspense books of hers that I read but lately I haven't been reading as much suspense so this new series fit me.

I read this last month for our Reading Challenge but as I was setting it up I realized that it would fit for, read a book published in the month (not year) you were born. I was all set to do it in April. I started setting up the post and then got to the date and thought..."I should hold off till next month and then not only would it have been a book published in May, it would also be reviewed in May."

Great plan, right?

No, not right. Because after all this was decided I knew that I was up creek without a paddle for Aprils Reading Challenge. So I quickly got to reading. Thankfully I had read this in the beginning of April so that I had plenty of time to read another book.

Now that my explanation is out of the way lets get back to the review.

I really enjoyed Barely Breathing. I love the characters and really wanted to know their stories. I love how both Lexi and Austin saw the break-up only from their own perspective and not the other persons. I enjoyed how they realized how the other felt and learned to put aside their hurt feels and feel for the other person.

These two are so good together and really cared for one in other. You felt it coming off the pages of the book. Not only do you have a wonderful romantic story you have so many characters that you really hope will have their own book too.

As the author builds her story she gets into the search & rescue part of it. I'm happy to say that I learned so much about it. I will also now never go into the woods again for fear of getting lost or hurt.

This is a wonderful small town, second chance romance and I will happily read the next story in the series.

If you've read Barely Breathing or anything else by Pamela Clare I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for visiting and happy reading! ♡
