Book Club Thursday: Pet Peeves

Welcome back to Book Club Thursday!

Today we are talking pet peeves. When we first came up with this theme topic I thought...Oh this is a good one. I have so much to talk about.

Then I really started to think about it and what I was going to say. Turns out I don't have that many pet peeves about the books I read.

Oh sure, there are a handful (slightly less as you'll see) of things that bug me some about the books I read but nothing that would stop me from enjoying the book.

It dawned on me that if you can find so many things that bug you, you are reading the wrong genre. It's time to move on and find something new for a while.

That being said I guess I should get on with what the post is all about.

Description

One thing that does bug me slightly is when a author goes on for a whole chapter describing say...the town. I would rather see it through the characters eyes.

To much description makes the story for me move slower. I like the dialogue to move it along more.

Tough Girl

I know I might stand alone on this but I really hate when authors are trying to make their female character tough, independent, able to take care of themselves, and all they do is make the woman come off bitchy. Now don't get me wrong in many of the books I read the woman is strong, but there is a difference between strong and not likable.

The not likable turns me off.

I know there are more things, or at least I think their are that bug me, but for the life of me I can't think of anymore. I'd love to hear your "pet peeves" what bugs you about the books you read?

Make sure to stop by my fellow Book Club Thursday Bloggers and see what their "pet peeves" are.

Stop by on September 10th when we are doing our "Reading Challenge" Post

  1. I find there's a fine line between description from the author as opposed to the character. And being and unlikable bitch myself mostly, I love tough female characters especially when a strong male comes along and reminds her that she needs to taken care of too. Lol

    1. I believe there is a difference between a strong woman and one that acts bitchy to show she's tough.

  3. LOL I love the romance genre but my pet peeve list is a bit lengthier than yours. I really don't like the tough girl either. I like strong independent women but yeah they come off as bitchy so often or like they're trying too hard to prove a point instead of just being.

My peeves are usually little things or ones that constantly pop up. I hate unsafe sex in books. Ticks me off so bad. Or when characters say things like I just need to screw you out of my system then I'll be over you That pops up way too often for me and gah that is just so much no. So much no. Those are my two big ones.

    1. Those are great pet peeves. I don't care for the unsafe sex either. Sometimes the words authors use are very...juvenile?
