Review: The Last True Vampire by Kate Baxter

SOUL SURVIVOR
He is the last of his race. The one true king of the vampires. Michael Aristov roams the nightclubs of L.A. after dark, haunted by his past and driven by his hunger. The last of the Ancient Ones, he alone has survived the destruction of his race at the hands of the slayers. Now he is forced to hunt and feed like a common vampire, a creature of lust. Nothing in this world can fulfill his needs...until he meets a woman who's everything he's ever wanted and more.

SWEET SALVATION
Her name is Claire Thompson. Her blood is so sweet, so intoxicating--the smell alone draws Michael to her like a moth to the flame. Sly, sexy, and seductive, Claire seems to be the only mortal who can satisfy his craving and seal his fate...forever. Can she be trusted? From their very first kiss, the last true vampire sweeps Claire into a world in which darkness rules desire--and where falling in love is the greatest danger of all...

Kate Baxter is a die-hard romantic with a thing for Shakespeare and all things fanged, furry, and undead. She is the author of the True Vampire series. Book 1, THE LAST TRUE VAMPIRE debuts June 2nd, 2015 from St. Martin's Press.

My thoughts...

I will admit when I first started reading The Last True Vampire my first thought was...did the author take a little from the vampire books she read and threw it on the pages? Now don't get me wrong, I understand that you can only have so many plots, and so many histories about vampires. Most of the time when I read other books that are in the same vein I just keep reading without interruption, with The Last True Vampire that wasn't the case. More then once I was jarred out of the story only to think...where did I read that before?

After a while (about 4 chapters)  the author seemed to get her footing and I started to really get into the story, for itself, not because it read like another book I enjoyed. What did keep me reading in the beginning was the characters. I really liked both Michael and Claire. I also liked Roan too! And I'm glad his book in next, The Warrior Vampire coming December 1st. There is another character that I really liked too. He was very sexy...I'll make you read the book to learn about him.

You won't be able to not feel for Michael and all he's gone through. His past is very sad. But then again so is Claire's, just in a different way. Not so physically painful. Once you get over the beginning (I'm sure not everyone will feel the same way I do) the story will move very fast.

In the end, I really enjoyed it and plan to read the next one plus I would like to get the novella that came before it, Stripped Bear. If you follow me you know I have a thing for bear shifters. They are my favorites.

I would love to hear your thoughts on The Last True Vampire. Have you read it?

Stripped Bear
by Kate Baxter

Get lost in the powerful, sexy novella by Kate Baxter where one alpha shifter will do whatever it takes to claim the woman he can *bearly* resist...

Caden Mitchell is the ultimate alpha. Known to most as a smoldering hot billionaire, his secret weapon--the ability to shapeshift into a strong and deadly bear--allows him to be the most ruthless enforcer for the Sortiari, a paranormal organization tasked with keeping the course of Fate on the right track. But when the ailing health of his grandmother leads him back home, the luscious curves of his childhood nemesis will be too much to resist...

Leah Ridgeway never expected Caden to give her the time of day. With his abs cut from stone and powerful, strong arms, she knows there's no chance he's interested in her handful of curves. But Caden is tormented by thoughts of her beautiful body. And when evil threatens Leah's very life, Caden will stop at nothing to keep her safe...and claim her as his mate...

The Warrior Vampire
by Kate Baxter
Release date December 1st
Pre-order

The vampire was built for sin, every inch of him tight and bulky with corded muscle. A killer, that much was apparent, and she couldn't help but wonder if his appetite for violence would rival his appetites for other...things.

A WOMAN SEDUCED
Naya Morales is no ordinary mortal. Born with a shaman's power, she has devoted her life to tracking down stolen magic--and punishing those who take it. But one fateful night, she follows the alluring call of a sensual magic that is too glorious to be true-and finds herself face to face with a stunningly handsome thief who is too magnificent to resist...

A VAMPIRE ENSLAVED
From the moment he sees her, Ronan knows Naya is his mate. Driven by a deep, almost mystical connection, he aches for her body, hungers for her blood, and swears their souls are anchored together. Naya refuses to believe the words of a vampire--or risk the wrath of her tribe. But when she tries to make Ronan her prisoner, neither chains of silver, nor fires of hell can help her escape the truth: she is the one who's been captured...
