Where Secrets Smolder...
Calm. Cool. Collected. Gisele Whitby has perfected the art of illusion—her survival, after all, has depended upon it. Years ago, to escape an abusive husband, Gisele "disappeared." Now she must risk revealing her new identity to save another innocent girl from the same fate. But she needs a daring man for her scheme, and the rogue in question shows a remarkable talent . . . for shattering Gisele's carefully constructed façade and igniting her deepest desires.
This isn't the first time Jamie Montcrief has awakened naked and confused from a night of drinking. It is, however, the first time a stunningly beautiful woman offers him payment afterward. Gisele has a business proposition for him, a mission involving cunning thievery and a brazen rescue. How can he say no to a plot this dangerous . . . and a woman this delectable?

Writers are always looking for inspiration, and I think I can speak for most when I say that inspiration can come from many different sources. Ideas may spring from TV shows, history books, news media, personal experiences, or even the random person standing next to you on the bus having the most hilarious phone conversation. And one of the most common questions I get is: what was the inspiration behind the Lords of Worth series?
My first source of inspiration came from my library of history books, specifically a reference book documenting the American Civil War. Elizabeth Van Lew, aka ‘Crazy Bet’ was a woman with deep Southern roots, an abolitionist, and most remarkably, a Union spy. It has been suggested that her incredible success as a spy was due to the way she brilliantly played upon her reputation as being an eccentric, harmless woman. Her story riveted me. If a well-born woman from a prominent Richmond family could operate a covert Union network using her social connections and a shield of feigned lunacy, imagine what a duchess at the height of Regency England could do…
The second source of inspiration came from the tale of Robin Hood. There is always a great deal of satisfaction that can be taken from the championing of the underdog. Especially if that underdog is righting a wrong that the law or society itself has failed to do. A good heart, a quick mind, and courage always make magnificent heros and heroines.
And last, but certainly not least, is the enormously entertaining Ocean’s Eleven. Aside from the beautiful cast (which contains a lot of inspiration for a romance writer!), I adored the idea of recruiting criminal specialists to pull off daring schemes. With such clever wit and quirky characters, expecting the unexpected is, well, expected!
Kelly Bowen grew up in Manitoba, Canada. She worked her way through her teenage years as a back country trail guide and ranch hand. She attended the University of Manitoba and earned a Master of Science degree in veterinary physiology and endocrinology.
But it was Kelly's infatuation with history and a weakness for a good love story that led her down the path of historical romance. When she is not writing, she seizes every opportunity to explore ruins and battlefields.
Currently, Kelly lives in Winnipeg with her husband and two boys, all of whom are wonderfully patient with the writing process. Except, that is, when they need a goalie for street hockey.
