THE COWBOY OF VALENTINE VALLEY (Jan 28th Release)

Welcome to Valentine Valley, where the cowboys have many talents and love is waiting around every corner . . .
Ever since a heated late-night kiss—that absolutely should not have happened—cowboy Josh Thalberg makes former Hollywood bad girl Whitney Winslow's pulse beat faster. But when she decides to use his gorgeous leatherwork in her new upscale lingerie shop, Leather & Lace, she's determined to keep their relationship strictly professional . . . even if she wants so much more.
Josh has never met a challenge he isn't up for. Which is probably why he allowed Whitney to persuade him to take the sexy publicity photo that went viral—and now has every woman in America knocking down his door . . . every woman except the one he can't get out of his head.
But how to convince a reformed bad girl that some rules are worth breaking?

“Keeping tabs on the town of Valentine Valley”

I’ve just written the fifth book of my series, all of them set in the same small town, Valentine Valley, Colorado. The newest two books are THE COWBOY OF VALENTINE VALLEY (February) and A PROMISE AT BLUEBELL HILL (March) I realized I use about fifty characters a book, some of them as small as a walk-on waitress, all the way up to the main characters and their families. That’s a lot of people to keep track of! I need to remember the things that happened to each person in each book, so I can keep showing them growing and learning and moving on in their lives.

The first thing I did was create a document for each person, and here’s everything I included:
--dates (birth, their ages in each book)
--physical description
--background info
--hobbies, sports, etc.
--their journey in each book
--ideas for future books
--a chart for their goals, motivations, and conflicts (if they’re a major character)

Then there’s my database for the whole series, so I can see at a glance who’s appearing in what book broken down in columns like this:
--last name
--first name (heaven forbid I have more than two names start with the same letter!!)
--book they appear in
--first chapter they appear in
--second book they appear in (and a column for each book and first chapter thereafter)
--major or minor character
--details: who they are, a description

Valentine Valley itself is like a character in the book, too, so it needs to be organized. I created a grid layout of the town, street by street, like looking down at a map. Color-coded and everything. Okay, I had too much fun doing that. But I’ve used it a lot, so it was worth the time. Corresponding to this is a town database, with these columns:
--building name
--grid position
--type of business; hotel, restaurant, B&B, tourist shop, or everyday business (I put these in color on my map)
--the book it first appears in
--notes: description of the interior, business explanation, anything I might have said in the books

So that’s how I keep track of the world of Valentine Valley. Do you think I’ve forgotten anything? Or maybe you just think I’m crazy… ;)

Author Info

EMMA CANE grew up reading and soon discovered that she liked to write passionate stories of teenagers in space. Her love of “passionate stories” has never gone away, although today she concentrates on the heartwarming characters of Valentine, her fictional small town in the Colorado Rockies. Now that her three children are grown, Emma loves spending time crocheting and singing (although not necessarily at the same time), and hiking and snowshoeing alongside her husband Jim and two rambunctious dogs Apollo and Uma

Review

I'm a huge fan of Emma Cane. I love her Valentine Valley series very much. These are easy to read feel-good books. They are well-written with characters that will pull at your heartstrings. If you haven't read these books yet you don't know what you're missing.

The Cowboy of Valentine Valley

You met Josh Thalberg in prior books. He's a very talent leather worker who's very much in demand. Whitney Winslow is trying to bring her lingerie shop, Leather & Lace to Valentine Valley. These two connect right away. Whitney has some issues in her past that have her being slightly standoffish. She works well with Josh. Soon she is helping him run his leather works business. I enjoyed these two together. They are good for each other.

A Promise at Bluebell Hill

For me this has been the funnest of the Valentine Valley books. I just loved both Monica Shaw and Travis Beaumont. With the President coming to Valentine Valley for her sons wedding it is Travis's job to make sure it's safe for her. Poor Travis has to deal with the Widows and their little group. He soon finds himself enjoying their antics. Throughout the story I found myself laughing and enjoying the story. I'm glad that Monica found her happily-ever-after.

    1. Yeah, I think it sounds more convoluted than it really is. But it sure makes looking up a character easier. Thank you, Rachell
